Stephen Nedoroscik Inspires Sterling Gym Members Where He Trained
They say you should never forget your roots. For gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, who played a key role in helping Team USA achieve a milestone not seen since 2008, those roots trace back to a gym in Sterling, Massachusetts.
The Worcester native, a specialist on the pommel horse, contributed to winning bronze in the men's team event—a historic achievement as it marked America’s first podium finish in 16 years.
At the Sterling Academy of Gymnastics, where Nedoroscik first trained, a watch party celebrated his success.
“My parents started this business in 1992 with just a small dream,” said Matt Carbone. “Now, 32 years later, we have an Olympic bronze medalist who is still competing in event finals on Saturday. It’s absolutely incredible.”
Boys gymnastics coach Jon Rydzefski added, “The kids see the big banner on the wall, look up to it, and aspire to achieve what Stephen has. It demonstrates that with hard work, they could one day be in his position.”
Nedoroscik’s journey began at the academy, where he was known for his playful nature.
“He was a typical, goofy little boy who would mess around on the equipment, get into trouble sometimes, but always had fun with gymnastics,” Carbone recalled.
